Blue America Welcomes Mark Schauer (MI-07)
Today's Blue America candidate in Mark Schauer in south central Michigan, leader of the Democrats in the State Senate. Mark is taking on radical right extremist Tim Walberg, a Bush Regime tool. He'll be over at Firedoglake today, doin' some live blogging from 2pm 'til 4pm, EDT. Even though he's only 46 years old Mark just became a grandpa. He's tends to spend more of his free time reading than listening to music. His iPod has books and he listens to them when he walks his dogs in the morning, But once I got him talking about music, I saw some real passion there. When we talked on the phone the other day he told me, "One of my heroes is Johnny Cash. I loved all of his music throughout an incredibly long career. He spoke to the American people; his heart and soul were transparent in his music. One of his early hits was "Get Rhythm", a song that's in my head a lot that's sort of about keeping a good attitude and working hard and just fighting through things and keeping youself going. It's sort of an anthem for me. Campaigning is like a marathon-- you've got to keep up your energy and stay focused on why you're doing it. Another one that's been a bit of an anthem for me in my senate district is 'Going to Jackson.' The song is about the push/pull of a hot, fiery relationship but for me its always about the community of Jackson which I represent."
Please surf over to FDL and hear what Mark has to say about the issues and his campaign. And if you want to help him out, our Blue America Page is open 24/7.

Actually, I'm getting tired of hearing about the wonderful democrats and the things they're going to do for us.
What have they done for us? We elected a democratic congress and we're still in Iraq. And I don't want to hear how they don't have the votes to stop the war.
They have the votes. Simply refuse to approve Bush's war funding requests.
I cannot get excited about the democrats while they refuse to show any spine. They've been a big disappointment.
kudos to Mark
Actually I'm tired of hearing republican talking points about a do-nothing congress. They have done plenty. If you you didn't want the damn war to continue you should have voted Bush out when you had the chance. Now shut up and think next time you vote America. Don't vote for the AWOL coke-snorting drunk fratboy.
Mark is a great guy, I am glad that he is my rep here in Jackson. It is one of the few things that make living in this sh*thole tolerable.
He is a voice of reason, decency, and common sense.
I wish him all the luck.

Bush the Liar @ 3:
The congress defines when there is a war. We're still at war due to their lack of spine.
When Bush asked for money, the Democratic congress gave it to him because they were AFRAID Bush would say they were not supporting the troops. They should have stuck to their guns and insisted on a withdrawal schedule before giving more.
umm...actually this song is about Jackson, Tennessee, Carl Perkins home town.
But that's OK.
I miss the Man in Black, and I hope he's singing with June, somewhere in the great beyond. There will never be another like him.
Walberg is an ultra-ultra rightwing nutjob, former minister, who ousted a sitting republican (in the primaries); with millions in out-of-state contributions from the fascist "Club for Growth" american hating anti-tax lunatics. Ninety percent of Walberg's contributions had no Michigan connection at all.
The problem is, like everywhere, the GOP used their tiny majorities in recent years to Gerrymander the "you-now-what" out of Michigan's congressional districts. In last years election, the Repukes only got 42.7% of the popular vote, yet they won 60% (9 of 15) U.S. House seats. How's that for government by the people?
Same thing in our state Senate, where Repukes won 21 of 38 Senate seats, with 46.5% of the popular vote.
While democrats were winning their districts with 70% of the popular vote in Michigan, two dozen repukes were elected by 200-1200 votes in their races.
Walberg, despite his millions, won by 10,000 votes out of 240,000 cast, in what is supposed to be a safe republican district.
And this same phenomena has taken place across the country. If these districts were not so skewed in favor of the American Fascist Party (GOP), the Democrats would have won between 60-70 House seats last year. Yet no-one in the media ever mentions it. In all my discussions with people here in Michigan, I have only met one person who was aware of this. Why? Because our local MSM is as useless as the national MSM.
And why don't the dems ever talk about this outrageous perversion of the American sytem? They should be screaming about GOP usurpation of power from the rooftops!!!
That's why I believe the biggest election comming up may be in 2010, when the Dems could re-draw these rediculous districts, and send the GOP back to a fringe 29% party, which it was when I was growing up in Michigan.
I liked the growly bits the best.
I live in Jackson, Mi, and unfortunately liberals are rare around here. Walberg's district is mostly rural and there are a lot of redneck types around here who vote.
True story:
I play in a blues band, and one night during a break between sets at a small popular bar in Jackson, two glad-handing music fans approached me, saying things like, " You guys are great," "We love the blues," etc. etc.
Followed by: "We're with Aryan Nations."
Yes, you read that right---Aryan Brotherhood loves the blues.
How do you respond to that kind of sheer stupidity? I could argue against their beliefs all day, but neither of these idiots possessed all their teeth, and I wasn't about to get in a bar fight with morons like them. A friend walked by and I went running after him, like I had to ask him something. Got me out of that situation.
This is the district represented by Walberg.
NoGWBpolicyleftinplace @ 8:
He didn't oust just any old ordinary sitting republican, he ousted Joe Schwartz, a progressive republican who had the personal endorsement of John McCain, who was still at the time a RINO (republican in name only). Schwartz is a good man who could have made inroads into ending the divisiveness in Washington. But he only won the primary in '04 because the other three or four candidates were trying to "out-conservative" each other, and they split the vote enough to let Schwartz take the win. It was hilarious watching these numbskulls trying ever-harder to pander to the worst of society---I have to give Schwartz credit for not sinking to that level. But he didn't stand a chance to win the primary in '06 when he couldn't get the support of the RNC---that went to Walberg. Shows where the republicans heads are.
As for Walberg---he penned a disgraceful op-ed piece that ran in the Jackson Citizen Patriot last Sunday. It was so full of crap it was almost unreadable---either Walberg is a pathological liar or he's not even reading the proposals he's voting on. Utterly incompetent.
For those interested, there is a Walberg Watch blog site:

Lots of good stuff there--including the above-mentioned op-ed piece.
