Mo Better Dems: Donna Edwards Update: Color of Change
We're doing very well with our Blue America fundraising campaign for Donna Edwards against the Bush Dog Al Wynn. 832 donors and $31,858 for Donna since yesterday...Color of Change, the group that helped push the Jena 6 story into the light has joined in:
Matt Stoller: "ColorOfChange.org, the group behind much of the Jena 6 protests, has gone out with an email supporting Donna Edwards. ColorOfChange.org has gone up against the CBC most recently when the group led the protest against the CBC-Fox News debate. Al Wynn, of course, was one of 24 signers of a letter encouraging the Presidential candidates to debate on Fox News.
Dear XYZ,
For years we've had a problem: Black politicians who claim to represent us but undermine our interests. Today, we're taking a step towards fixing it.
Congressman Al Wynn from Maryland's 4th district is a perfect example of the lack of accountability that's hurting our community. He has consistently voted against the interests of his Black constituents, siding with the big business and other special interests that foot the bill for his campaigns. 1,2
His opponent in the primary, Donna Edwards, is exactly what we need in Washington. She has an excellent record of activism and has been a powerful advocate for policies that will help the Black community, especially low-income Black folks. 3...read on
We have a special ActBlue page and we’re trying to raise $100,000 by Saturday. Can you help?

Jena 6? You mean the vicious racial attack by 6 blacks on a white? Oh yeah that's right, it's only racial when a group of whites beat the crap out of a black. Support Racism. Support Donna Edwards and Color of Change.
Human @ 1:
That was a pitiful post "human". Who hung the nooses? But I guess in your little pea brain, that was simply a practical joke.
People like you make me sick. Pathetic worms who crawl out of dung filled burrows to sling crap and wiggle back.
Checking her out on youtube. Sounds good. And hot.
bbwar - Two wrongs don't make a right. And if you don't know who hung the nooses, you are ignorant of the facts.
Why the hell is Pelosi supporting a Bush Dog?
Off topic but needs to be seen to be believed:
Bush Godwin's Congress for failing to confirm Mukasey.
Good grief.
I would be wary of ANYONE that Pelosi is supporting. End of story.
I intend to pass on donating my money to any democrat, anywhere, until the TelCom amnesty issue is put to death. I encourage everyone, everywhere, to do likewise.
Why the hell is Pelosi supporting a Bush Dog?
Stockholm syndrome?
bbwar @ 2:
Some of the boys in the Jena 6 had had guns pulled on them and glass bottles smashed over their heads prior to the attack that caused controversy. The boy who was "viciously attacked" was using racial slurs and taunting the Jena 5 (one of the boys was not even in the vicinity) about their having guns drawn on them and bottles broken over their heads and how no charges had been brought against the whites boys.
"Some of the boys in the Jena 6 had had guns pulled on them and glass bottles smashed over their heads prior to the attack that caused controversy."
Got a cite? Or, do you believe any old bullshit posted on a blog?
Ever had a bottle smashed over your head? Your skull would be crushed long before the glass broke. Maybe you have had a bottle broken over you head, because you sure sound addled.
Wynn represents everything that's wrong with America. A bankruptcy bill defender while Maryland residents are losing their homes. I hope everyone can't donate to Donna's campaign. Pelosi supporting Wynn is reflective of congress's poor approval rating
Hail To The Chimp, Like I said 2 wrongs don't make a right. However if I knew the priors of Mychal Bell(violent) and he was approaching me along with others in an angry manner and I had a gun or other weapon and escape was not possible then I would not have have gotten the gun taken from me by Mychal Bell and gang like Matt Windham did. They would have been shot down. The fact is this is a very poor case to attach any type of "Civil Rights" cause to it. Although a very good case for personal responsibility and parental responsibility. Mychal Bell committed violent acts on other people even while on probation for another violent act on a person. Any of the kicks to the head of the victim could have brought death or very severe injury.
Finally Mychal Bell had one more thing against him, which was beyond his control. Like most of the males in our jails and prisons he came from a broken family with his "father" largely absent. While I agree that the charge of attempted murder was excessive, this is far from being a model case for people who want to work for Equal Rights should attach themselves to including Donna Edwards or the people from Color of Change. And for the record, I've been a long time member of the Southern Poverty Law Center(linked on my site) and we have been fighting the lopsided treatment and sentencing of Black Youth for some time. They to have taken the "Jena 6" case up and I've already written a letter expressing my displeasure.
Peace.(oh and thanks for being most congenial in your reply)
Jawai - Couldn't it have been easier to just ask for a citation than insulting? And for the record, I've had a bottle smashed on my head, smashed a bottle on 2 different heads and no one's skull was crushed. I must say I was very addled by the bottle though as was my 2 mutual combatants. But then again, I've been accused of being hard headed.
Peace.
It is time for Nancy Pelosi to also be defeated the next time she runs for office. Pelosi is a disgrace and I cannot stand the woman. She is so phony!
Went there. Did that. First appeal.
C'mon now the rest of you, go over and give. You don't have to give much, it's a numbers game.
We want her statistics up. Numbers of people who've given, from all over the USA, those statistics really matter. We HAVE to stand up to these "Democrats" who're rolling over consistently.
If everybody does a little, the total will finally be reached.
Human @ 1:
Yes you bastard the very same group of young kids that got themselves involved in a school fight with a young white boy, whom was also heavily involved in the mess, along with several other young white kids that got away with everything, yet the young black kids are charged in a adult court with crimes of attempted murder and years and years in jail. The young white kid did not deserve the but kicking he got, but neither did the young black kid that three white kids beat up. The entire mess was a misfortune for all involved, but you speak like many of the bigots responsible for all this mess in the first place. Instead of you and your kind looking at the big picture and seeing that no good can come from any of this. You would rather see the destruction of even more black youth lives.
You go to hell bigot
Human @ 13:
You know it all bastard. You need to keep up with your own kind. If the truth be known you all have your own set of problems that really need to be cleaned up.
Right now the little fellow in the white house and his entire gang of thieves and thugs are the worst piece of bull shit that could ever happen to this country and guess what you idiot?, he has a daddy and big fat nasty disgusting momma, whom all have screw this entire country up. Don't take my word for it, just ask people all over the world, whom now hate us because of some of the folks that look like your stupid ass.
Otay @ 5:
Because the Speaker of the House inherently has to support incumbents.
RMac @ 7:
Yeah? Unlike Donna Edwards -- who I support -- Speaker Pelosi has a twenty year voting history which PROVES that she is a Progressive.
"End of story" is your closed mind showing.
LongTooth @ 8:
This is a CANDIDATE for a House seat. Elected or not, Edwards is not going to be a Senator, so the telecom amnesty, WHICH WAS NOT OFFERED BY THE HOUSE, is moot to her election.
I don't know how many ways you can shoot yourself in the foot, but if you like one candidate more than the incumbent NOW IS YOUR CHANCE TO FUND A CHANGE. Shutting your pocketbook because of some blanket condemnation of Dems is just ignorant. This is your chance to make a better Dem party. Use it or lose it.
Mr. XXXX @ 15:
How do you define phony? She broke the record of rollcall votes in any Congress in history.
CA-8 is in the catbird seat, having the Speaker in their district. They have elected her for twenty years, and her voting record is solid gold (including against the Iraq disaster).
You can't find a better politician in her district -- GSM Sheehan is NOT a better politician. Either CA-8 can have the Speaker of the House, or they can elect a neophyte to be one of 435. If anyone in CA-8 is that stupid, they deserve to lose the privilege they currently enjoy.
Pelosi has been piss poor and everybody knows it. She may very well face primary challengers.
Didn't Howard Dean say that the Party didn't get involved in primaries? I know I heard that, so I guess he will be disciplining Pelosi.
If you want to see the Democratic Party move in a progressive direction it's time to put your money where your mouth is. Give Donna Edwards a fighting chance in defeating a Bushdog Democrat in the primaries. Surely there are 50,000 progressives out there who can afford a $10 donation or 25,000 progressives donating $20 will put the fear of the people in the Democratic leadership. The handwriting is on the wall. The Democratic Party belongs to the "people" and not the corporations.
Well, I'm glad Pelosi has the willpower to go against 90% of her base when she threatened to take Stark's committee chairs away if he did not apologize for offending the Bush.
And glad she chooses to stand up for the poor downtrodden political elite status quo Bush Dogs instead of supporting true progressives who will represent their constituents...instead of the PTB to keep the large handouts coming.
/sarcasm
Paul in LA @ 22:
Daisy Zimmerly @ 23:
Pelosi has broken records in number of rollcall votes and percentage of caucus voting together. By both those standards, her Speakership has been a considerable, demonstrable success.
That the Senate swallows up much of her work is not her fault. That there aren't enough free votes in the Senate is not her fault.
You blame her for one thing, and one thing only. And that's YOUR screwup, not hers.
Otay @ 26: "Well, I'm glad Pelosi has the willpower to go against 90% of her base when she threatened to take Stark's committee chairs away if he did not apologize for offending the Bush."
He broke the House rules. She's the keeper of the House rules.
'Offending Bush' was not why he was forced to take down his words, and you probably know it, but are too dishonest to state the fact, instead of your propaganda.
Huckawasp @ 24:
The party may not, but the Speaker is bound to support incumbents, that's a big part of that job. The caucus will not commit to you if you don't commit to the caucus.
