Mo Better Democrats! Donna Edwards: We did it!

We've raised over 100,000 dollars now for Donna Edwards and I want to thank everybody who was able to contribute. We're sending a message to the Bush Dog Democrats and Steny Hoyer. Be true to your party platform and be true to Progressive ideals. We're not going to take it anymore!

Jane Hamsher says:

Of that, Blue America raised $44,000 on our “Better Democrats” page, and another $2,000 on the Blue America page itself so to everyone who contributed to that $46,000 total — we sincerely thank you.

Matt Stoller:

And so we wanted to send a message to Speaker Pelosi, Rahm Emanuel, Steny Hoyer, the corporate PACs and the whole incumbent protection racket that we aren't just going to call and write and protest anymore. We are going to organize, not just for more Democrats, but for better Democrats.

I call my contributions to Edwards' campaign not only a measure of support for her principled candidacy but also as a "screw you" to Pelosi's shopworn politics of cynicism and status quo." Make that a double. We're tired of her mantra, of the democratic mantra: "we're the lesser of two evils, we're the lesser of two evils." Prove it.

after dennis stood up and bravely spoke his words to impeach cheney, the rest of the democrats proved they sleep with the gop and DO NOT HONOR THE CONSTITUTION. this is the strongest indication that it’s time to clean the congress of all the intrenced incombants and phoney gop pretending to be dems like lieberman. if you uphold the rights of a delusional pres and vp both who have committed numerous crimes against the laws of the USA and its citizens, then you are an accomplice and just as guilty.

we need to revisit the “french revolution” and put honest heads and minds in our govt. not these corporate whores there now.

Yes, we can raise money and fight that powers that be. Time to go after the big fish; Let's find a true replacement for D. Feinstein. After all, this is a woman who has voted for every bogus flag amendment, so her vote for torture and her capitulation to Bush and his DOJ nominee should not be a surprise to anyone. So let's get behind a real Dem now and get this sorry excuse for a Dem senator from my state out.

congrat. for raising the $100,000 for the seat in Maryland, and hope this send a clear message to Pelois and Reid that we are no longer sit back and rubber stamp their in action.

Congrats, Donna! I think it would be the strongest message possible if both Pelosi and Hoyer were to be upended by true Progressive Democrats. I hope the push will be overwhelming.

The Dems claimed to be powerless during the first 6 years of Bush's Rule, but that was a lie. Now they are the Majority Party and they still claim powerlessness. More lies. Pelosi knew all about the warantless wiretapping, she is complicit. If Bush/cheney go down, so might she. And she should along with Liberman, Boxer, Feinstein, etc. etc. etc.

Take that, DNC.

Raising 100,000 Netroot Dollars for a Congressional race is commendable; however, this is unlikely to tip over anyone's corporate apple cart. The tiny, tiny percentage of a government contract required to buy political favors, or political seats, is easily increased from .01% to .05% if needed.

I fear this $100K only gives Steny and Nancy a good talking point for approaching their corporate donors -- "Give us even more this year, or we'll get a bunch of wacko, left wing Marxist hippy dingbats in Congress, and that won't be good for business as usual."

Until corporate and investor monies are removed from the political process, even a million dollars for a Netroots candidate will be effortlessly overcome by the corporate donors -- because they can pass on the higher costs of buying politicians to we consumers. Right now, politicians are dirt cheap. If they become slightly more expensive, corporate donors will just charge you and I more for it.

The corporate donations need to be removed for citizen input to have its true effect.

Stoller: "the whole incumbent protection racket"

That's hilarious. The Speaker has little choice but to campaign for incumbents. When Donna Edwards is elected the "whole incumbent protection racket" will swing into her campaigns as well. Shall it not?

Ask Rep. Edwards if she wants the party's help in staying in power so she can fulfill the promise of her candidacy.

No caucus can exist without support of incumbency. MS would know that, if he pulled his head out of his arse from time to time.

Antifa @ 20 "I fear this $100K only gives Steny and Nancy a good talking point for approaching their corporate donors"

Pelosi does not HAVE significant corporate donors. Her numbers are available for your study -- they are minor entirely. Half of her personal political funding, IIRC, comes from labor unions.

I think the Speaker would LOVE to have Representative Edwards in the caucus. That doesn't change the fact that she has to support incumbents (so long as they aren't criminals, etc.).

Paul in LA's picture

Kathy @ 16 "Pelosi knew all about the warantless wiretapping, she is complicit."

Speaker Pelosi is behind the FISA RESTORE Act which provides NO IMMUNITY for past crimes whatsoever.

"If Bush/cheney go down, so might she. And she should along with Liberman, Boxer, Feinstein, etc. etc. etc"

If you think Senator Boxer is in the same camp with Lieberman and Feinstain -- you are shitting watermelons. Senator Boxer is another of the most progressive voices in the Congress.

There is no comparison between these two pairs of politicians. The list of people who need replacing starts all the way at the other end of the incumbency. If you don't know that, you better get a big spoon, cause you have a lot of watermelon to eat before you get to reality.

Then ONCE AGAIN the Speaker has served her country.

Gayle @ 4:

And Steny Hoyer should be next!

Good f*cking luck.

2006 Congress, 5th district General
Steny Hoyer Democratic 168,114 82.69
Steve Warner Green 33,464 16.46

2004 Congress, 5th district General
Steny Hoyer Democratic 204,867 68.67
Brad Jewitt Republican 87,189 29.93

The Republicans apparently didn't even bother running someone against him in 2006. He is winning by margins of 40-70%.

Speaker Pelosi tried to block Hoyer as Majority Leader. She lost huge (86-149).

You're going to have to decide whom it is you hate. Lumping all these individuals together in a big ball you're angry at is the lowest form of political awareness, not far distant from the near-brainless anger of the right against "Mexicans."

Tomazulob @ 15:

Unseat Pelosi, and Hoyer is next.

Those are facts.

Donna Edwards, whom I support, deserves your support. Al Wynn is vulnerable. Steny Hoyer is NOT vulnerable. If the leftist spin and all this bashing of Pelosi were to succeed, you will be elevating Hoyer, who is a hardcore DLC player. Try to keep that in mind.

Pelosi founded the Progressive caucus. She has a vote score of THREE (out of 100) by the American Conservative Union. If she isn't a 'real' progressive, then there are none.
