Two Oregon Political Heroes Want You To Vote For Jeff Merkley In The Blue America Contest
Two of the most beloved political figures in Oregon, former Governor Barbara Roberts and progressive icon Earl Blumenauer each wrote to Blue America this week asking us to pass along their messages of support for Jeff Merkley in our Blue America Pick-A-Senator Competition, in which you vote and we donate $5,000 to the winner. Gov. Roberts' and Rep. Blumenauer's enthusiasm for Jeff seems to be borne out by our community since Jeff is way out front, at leats for now. Rep. Blumenauer:
"I'm Congressman Earl Blumenauer from Oregon and I wanted to take a moment to tell you about our race for U.S. Senate. Jeff Merkley might not be as funny as Al Franken or a member of the Udall family, but he's been a real progressive leader in Oregon and has the record to show he will be in the U.S. Senate. As Oregon's Speaker of the House, Jeff led one of the most effective, efficient and progressive legislative sessions in Oregon's history. Much as I like the Udall's we may end up needing 51 members of the Senate to ensure Obama becomes President and we can't count on Lieberman.

I think that Merkley stands a very good chance of beating Gordon Smith in November. Let's give him the push to get him over the top.
Thanks for posting this as i live in Oregon and don't know much about Merkley other than what Sen. Smith's ad's say (which i can tell are full of lies since they're so terrible). This definitely helps push me more toward Merkley.
Doesn't this put the debt to over 10 trillion? That's a 1 with 13 zeros!
I wonder if McCain knows that is the number. I wonder too how that squares with his superstitious nature! His first year as prez trying to deal with a 13 digit debt! That's a lot of salt thrown over your shoulder to keep you safe!

The Dems need an overwhelming majority in Congress, and getting rid of Republican Gordon Smith is a huge step in that direction.
Gordon Smith (R) cancels out EVERY meaningful Senate vote that our truly progressive Democratic Senator, Ron Wyden, votes on.
Gordon Smith (R) has run a slimy campaign in Oregon; his ads are disingenuous, ugly, deceptive, and mean spirited.
It's not just about Oregon; it's about the United States. There are only 100 Senators, and getting rid of Gordon Smith (R) in Congress would be a significant progressive win.

Barbara Roberts is the best republicrat there was for the state of oregon, and blumenauer effectively killed funding at OHSU for ovarian cancer, after all other oregon electorates agreed to the funding.. They both Suck!!! and are not true oregonians.. This oregonian knows!
My wife & I have contributed....we want our future home state to be as blue as possible.

I'm in Oregon too, and have been utterly disgusted by that slo-mo video that Smith's minions have put out...you know, the one of Merkley trying to answer reporters' questions while chewing a hamburger? He actually managed it rather gracefully, as evidenced on YouTube, but the ads shown here have been edited outrageously. Gordon Smith has a sort of polished, sophisticated image, and I can only surmise that he is trying to play on class prejudice by making Merkely look like low born slob. Whereas the ads on YouTube give prominent place to the issue of the war in Georgia, the one's here are entirely focused on Merkely eating. In slow motion. F you, Gordon Smith. Your sanction of that ad shows YOU to be the graceless and classless one.

i *know*!! Even if i didn't know anything about either of them it would be obvious to be what a stupid cheap shot that ad is... i'm sure Smith looks like Grace Kelly when he's eating, right? Smith has really made himself look desperate and ruined his credibility- and this coming from someone who was kinda on the fence about them both!
