Bill Halter to primary Blanche Lincoln: Blue America News
Good times, good times. Blue America PAC was out in front of the entire blogosphere when we targeted Blanche Lincoln as being a major obstructionist to health-care reform in America. We made our decision to raise and spend a ton of money to highlight how she was a typical ConservaDem who was more interested in keeping the health insurance industry rolling in cash than helping Americans in the struggle with health care. You can see all three ads that we ran with your help against her here: Campaign For Health Care Choice.
Howie Klein interviewed Lt. Governor Bill Halter before we started our ad campaign back in June of 2009 to see if he was interested in running against Blanche and he told Howie he wasn't at that time, but I think he sees his opening now.
Blue America has been busy all year letting Arkansas voters know that Blanche Lincoln may have a "D" next to her name but when it comes to the key issues that impact ordinary working families and pits their interests against Big Business and Wall Street, she was, in effect, a dependable Republican shill. Politics for her has become cultivating K Street and then fast-talking the Democratic base back home. We helped make that more and more difficult for her. And now, with her approval ratings the lowest of any member of the Senate and with a virtual certainty of defeat at the hands of any Republican, she has a real primary on her hands.
This morning Lt. Governor Bill Halter declared the would enter the May 18th primary against her. (Next week is the deadline for filing.) I spoke with Halter a few months ago and he said he had no intention of running. I feel certain he didn't. But as Lincoln's approval in the state collapsed, he has come to realize that he is the only chance the Democrats have to hold onto the seat.

Blue America just added Bill to our Send The Democrats A Message ActBlue page, in case you'd like to help him get his campaign message out. Blanche has raised over $7 million so far and has over $5 million on hand much of it from the sleaziest special interests in Washington (and Arkansas).
We've added him to our new: 'Send The Democrats A Message They Can Understand' and you can send him donations there.
Right now Blue America is working on interviewing him again so we can find out as much as we can for you on where he stands on the issues.
Blanche Lincoln responds to Halter's candidacy:
“I’m excited about today and I’m excited to be an Arkansas Democrat. I’ll file for re-election and continue fighting for Arkansas every day here at home and in the United States Senate. I know that I am the target of both political extremes but that’s what makes this campaign so important to all of us. This Senate seat belongs to Arkansas, not to outside groups that are angry I don’t answer to them.”
Yup. Extremists like the League of Conservation Voters. Extremists like the Democratic Party (and the Obama Administration).

The only question is...Is this Lt. Governor a real Democrat, or is he simply another big stinking bag of Dino in a different bag?
"Anyone that makes less than $150K in this country, has no business voting Republican."
why bother. Just keep what ya got.
Snark.
Senator Ned Lamont. Say, is Halter rich?

Good one. Note to Netroots and Democrats. Let's support a candidate who doesn't go on vacation right after winning the primary.
...the DNC and White House are backing in this one?
Rahm Emanuel thinks this whole exercise is f'ing re*#&*@#!
Yes, Halter is a good progressive. How he fares with my fellow Arkansans remains to be seen. Ms. Blank has one hell of a war chest but Halter should be able to raise money quickly...especially with John, Markos, etc. pushing small dollar contributions and labor's support...
That said, the Halter camp will have to get ugly...and get ugly early. Ms. Blank is polling like crap and there is plenty of fodder from her voting record to work with...
Go Bill!
...will need to get ugly at all. All they have to do is push her record on healthcare reform which is favored by a good margin in Arkansas.
Do they want a (D) Arkansas or a (D?) Wal-Mart?

We're making list, checking it twice, gonna find out who's naughty or nice.
Republicans are liars and simply cannot be trusted.
If there is a bear.

I owe Blanche a big thank you.
I guess I'm one of those extremists that she called out.
And for the first time in my life, I just may have to get off my butt... donate to a politician and campaign for him.
Thanks again Blanche for not listening to us extreme Arkansans that believe in the people and not corporate interests.

I didn't know making "faith in an all-mighty God" one of your campaign planks qualified you as a progressive these days. I guess if he is better than Blanche... but still, I'd have a hard time voting for anyone that campaigned on that issue. Is that just pandering, or is he really a Bible-beater?
If it's kept in check.
You can have faith in a holy cause and still be progressive. Jesus was quite progressive.

Jesus or Halter?

As long as you choose to ignore the parts of the Bible where he isn't. I'd suggest you read The Evolution of God. Jesus, if he existed, was likely a petty, vindictive, apocalyptic Jewish prophet, of which there where many in his day, who's followers shifted his image after his death to fit the needs of their times.
But that is beside the point. I just want to know if he's more interested in the First Amendment and the seperation of church and state than he is in "faith in an all-mighty God". Or is he another vote for faith-based initiative funding and tax exemptions for clergy?
I heard it argued that the Church in Jerusalem, headed by James, thought he died for Israel, not the whole danged world.
Either we had gods of our own, or were lost causes in their eyes.

a pretty good bio for a southern state candidate. Plus he was a pretty cute little spud in his Sunday-go-to-meeting clothes.
I hope Kroger security tapes do not surface before the election showing him letting illegal aliens cart off chickens through the back door.

just two words for blanche.......
YOU BITCH !!!
Whether Halter wins or loses, leaving Blanche unprimaried while vulnerable and polling low after her anti-party stances was making the Dems look pretty incompetent.
And other conservadems is that they buy the right wing framing that Obama, Pelosi and Reid are pushing some type of radical left wing agenda. They exhibit no political courage. The same can be said for Bayh.
and outside groups like the Democratic voters of Arkansas.
These Arkansas folks (Bill and the other Bill, Blanche and Huckebee) make one want to Blanche.
I've been burned in the past in contributing too early to candidates new to my radar. Something--including the use of the pick-up truck--what, is that compulsory now for candidates?--about his presentation just doesn't seem contribution-worthy.
Keep me updated. Maybe this is just a bad first impression. I hope for the sake of the Arkansas population that Halter turns out to be the most able of candidates. God knows that Blanche has certainly turned out to be a turkey!
This woman is absolutely useless and she's no help at all to the democrats who really want to see ACTUAL health care reform and I just don't understand why the white house is supporting her!
