Republican ad asks "Who looks more like a terrorist?"

This is either really, really tasteless satire or the most incredibly stupid ad ever made. You decide which. It must be seen to be believed.

Beyond the obvious stupidity of lining up an old gray white guy and a young burly olive-skinned guy and asking which looks like a terrorist, his punch line actually argues for racial profiling.

"Let's face it. If a good-looking ripped guy without much hair was flying an airplane into the twin towers, I'd have no problem being pulled out of line at the airport."

Or, put a bit differently, racial profiling is really just fine with Dan Fanelli. He thinks it makes us safer.

Oh, he's also one of a zillion candidates running against Rep. Alan Grayson. If you feel so inclined, please consider a donation to Blue America for Rep. Grayson. The idea of any candidate like this actually having a prayer of winning is almost more than my little blue heart can stand.

Easy.

The fat white Christian male in his 40s who votes Republinazi and who has more guns than he has IQ points who hates America and everything our nation stands for.

Cases in point:

1: Timothy McVeigh

2: Every anti-abortion Christanic terrorist

3: Every tea bagging loon

4: Every San Francisco Giants fan

Okay, I threw that last one in because I hate and fear Barry Bonds.

Put pics of Timothy McVeigh, the Underwear Bomber (Nigerian), and any of the 9/11 hijackers into a similar ad, asking the same question... not so easy to profile now, eh?

DrBadger's picture

I'm pretty sure the people this ad is targeting would see McVeigh as some sort of an American hero.

Kreskin's picture

Exactly right Dr.

I'd say the white dude. Native Americans, those who's black ancestors were lynched, and the family of Matthew Sheppard, would probably say the same.

Seeing a good looking ripped guy without much hair

makes me want to swoon

(swoon is a synonym for puke, isn't it?)

A soft, pasty white doughy pantload is more like it. In other words, a typical conservative.

I am not in Florida but I think his voice is priceless.

"Republican ad asks "Who looks more like a terrorist?""

If they have to ask, how does the whole profile thing work? Is it some kind of secret code or something?

Profiling only fails to work if the person hell-bent on trying to do you harm by any means necessary intends to deceive you. But that never happens, right?

"Let's face it. If a good-looking ripped guy without much hair was flying an airplane into the twin towers, I'd have no problem being pulled out of line at the airport."

This doesn't even make sense. Neither apply.

Besides, they all could be terrorists and they all look different. That guy yesterday looked nothing like the girl from the other month.

curtilingus's picture

Terrorists can't be girls. That doesn't match the profile set by the commercial.

I've been seeing a lot of these nutty ads. We're going to see more of them because there's no requirement to be honest or have any integrity.

The sad thing is I think that the dems will lose some if not a lot of seats in November because we don't have loonies keeping us fired up the way they do. They have been so full of hate and anger since Obama won they have the momentum and it's sad because we have short political memories.

Since those coming in through Mexico are all with the possibility of a very few, are dark skinned and they are coming in illegally how can one say that to find them and question people to make sure they are not one of the criminals that have crossed over our boarder how can one legitimately say it is racial profiling? If someone reports a white guy committing a crime and police start questioning white men do we scream racial profiling? No of course not. I live in an area where there is a variety of races, probably about even with whites, hispanic and black. Every week there are murders in the area around here, very rarely is the person committing the crime white or even black. Most of the violent crime in this area is done by the hispanic gangs.

I am supportive of Arizona and any other state that steps up to the plate and goes after anyone who entered into this country illegally. With this current situation I do see what the conservatives mean when they accuse us of fear mongering. This side is no better then them. All kinds of horrid things will come of finding and deporting these criminals.

I have no sympathy for anyone who can't obey laws. The rest of us have to so why not those who come in illegally? The fact remains that in Arizona and that general region the majority of these criminals are dark skinned. Of course one would be looking for them amongst the dark skinned population.

I do believe the dems will loose because their opposition to this law. The people who have to deal with this issue and those criminals day after day will vote for someone who will uphold the law rather than those who would give the criminals a free pass to avoid hurting someones feelings.

I have reliably voted for Democratic candidates for years. This is one issue that could have me voting for someone else.

Here is your lovely parting gift--a box of pigweed cookies and a gallon of Round-Up. Enjoy, and be glad you don't live in Hartford. You will be remembered as a great humanitarian.

Buford's picture

It's easy to say that, hypothetically, you would not object to white men being profiled because you know that would never happen. Even if, hypothetically, crazy white militia types began acting out their fantasies of blowing up govt entities, there's no logical way that govt officials would initiate profiling of all white Christians to determine if they were potentially criminals or not... just not feasible since they are a huge portion of the population. Instead, govt officials would use investigative tools to narrow down the list of potential suspects and perps before engaging them directly... exactly the way it should be done today, even with non-whites and non-citizens. Build the case using evidence, then move forward.

littlepitcher's picture

Same thing applies here (nearly 40% Hispanic). Hispanics prey on Hispanics, blacks prey on other blacks and on Hispanics, white rednecks sell meth and drive drunk or otherwise impaired. Cops bust all ethnicities impartially unless they're selling cocaine and heroin, in which case they're protected classes and the law is on the pad.

Arizona is trying hard to keep from becoming a Juarez or Tijuana. The state already has numerous car thefts, burglaries, robberies by illegals looking to acquire pre-employment resources.

I just don't like thieves, don't give a darn what color they are, and want them deported if they aren't American citizens and prosecuted if they are. The Arizona law is unconstitutional in part, but should not be junked in its entirety.

Since Republicans don't understand satire, I'd have to go with "most incredibly stupid ad ever made".
