A C&L Happy New Year

cl_logo1a.gif Happy New Year!!!!

For 2007---I'm going to keep exposing the media smears as best as I can and just echo Duncan's words:

And, I suppose this is as good a time as any for my occasional reminder as we enter the silly season. Ads appearing on this site by candidates are paid ads and do not imply any support or endorsement by me. I actually don't expect to get behind one candidate or another, though that could change, especially if suitcases filled with money appear on my doorstep. I'll try to do my best to avoid at least some of the food fight once it begins, though I'm human and have opinions and happen to write a blog about politics, so I imagine I'll get sucked in at times.

I'll definitely give my opinions about the policies candidates support and the way they try to deliver their message. And, of course, I'll be busy trying to push back against unfair media smears of any of the candidates. But, again, the fact that I praise or defend candidate X does not mean I've joined their team.

Bob Somerby nails the Authenticity narrative perfectly:

Which of the hopefuls is most authentic? We have an answer to that: STFU! If we Democrats have an ounce of sense, we’ll steer the discussion toward serious topics—topics which are less subjective. In the past fifteen years, the public has generally agreed with Dems on the vast range of major issues. C&L Video Contest: Blue America needs you!

Today marks the first day of a special Blue America video contest at Crooks and Liars. I'm looking for videomakers, animators and flash designers who want to be part of the Blue team and help take Congress back from the rubber stampers. Rickie Lee Jones and Tom Maxwell and Ken Mosher, formerly of the Squirrel Nut Zippers, put together a campaign theme song, "Have you Had Enough."

Media error

And you can read all about how the song came about here. Mike McIntee has been doing yeoman's work in turning out dozens of customized videos for our campaign.

One of the last ones he did was for Angie Paccione's challenge to right-wing extremist Marilyn Musgrave. take a look:

What we're looking for today is a similar approach, but one that also emphasizes the latest outrage in the Republican Culture of Corruption that ties these rubber stamp incumbents into the Republican leadership's cover-up of the Foley-Predatorgate scandal.

Tancredo gets his "Hate" on

Tancredo.jpg Remember when Joe Klein recently said:

Rove has shown a positive genius for organizing campaigns around poisonous trivia. He will question the patriotism of Democrats (and, once again, be aided by those on the noisome left who believe that the U.S. is a malignant, imperialistic force in the world). He will deploy an ugly, stone-throwing distortion of Christian "values," especially against those Democrats who choose not to discriminate against homosexuals. And if things get really desperate, he will play the race card, as Republicans have ever since they sided against the civil rights movement in the 1960s.

Southern Poverty Law Center

On the ground floor, a United States Army brass band commemorated the victims of 9/11. One level up, not far from the museum's permanent Confederate Army exhibit, the state chapter of the League of the South (LOS), a neo-Confederate hate group, hosted a barbecue in honor of Colorado Congressman Tom Tancredo, head of the House Immigration Reform Caucus and likely contestant in the 2008 GOP presidential primary. Proceeds from the $15 per-plate fundraiser went to Americans Have Had Enough!, a South Carolina-based non-profit coalition for which Tancredo serves as honorary chairman.
