Keith Olbermann discussed how destructive Blanche Lincoln has been over her non-support of the public option as she sits on the Senate Finance Committee even though Arkansas residents favor the public option by a wide margin.

Olbermann: ...others who act like Republicans who still call themselves Democrats -- Senator Blanche Lincoln for instance telling Roll Call that she's all for the public option so long as it is not a pubic option, ostensibly so she can sell it back home in Arkansas. Her quotes: I'm not supportive of a government run and government supported public option. That would be the definition of a public option. She adds,

It's got to be competitive. It's got to create choice for people.

Last month 55% of those people in her state surveyed by Research 2000 were in favor of a public option. The public option is there to create choice and bring down the price of health care for Americans. What is she talking about?

Blue America was the first group to target Lincoln back in June with an ad campaign, and now, as the health-care reform debate winds down, we're buying another round of ads to run in her state for the next two weeks that will inform her constituents once again that she is not working for the people who elected her, but for the health industrial complex that sends funds to her campaign. It's not a coincidence that her poll numbers have dropped big time since we started our ad campaign -- and as time has gone by, she finally became more outspoken about her non-support for the public option. It wasn't a surprise that she tried to stay out of the spotlight as much as possible so that she could remain invisible until she cast her vote, but that was never going to happen.

Please donate to Blue America's public option Lincoln ads if you can so we can keep the pressure on Blanche and make her realize that it's the voters who she's supposed to be working for...

Isn't that where Wilbur and Orville Faubus are from?

Nice ad at bottom. Thats it ! Call them out. Hold them accountable for selling their souls to lobbyists. Make them unelectable next cycle.
Is Blanche related to Jean Schmidt ? Physical and ideological twins i tell ya.

The church lady....

BTW, I hear Keith is having an hour tomorrow night on health care legislation.

No

Keith is favoring us with an hour of his opinion. Guess he wants to make up for missing much of last week. Thought we were starved for him or something.

Suppose she doesn't budge. After all, those who have taken money from the health industrial complex have been rather loyal to their paymasters. So suppose you keep running the ads and driving down her poll numbers. Do we have a primary challenger waiting in the wings to take the Senate seat from her? That seems to be a necessary element to this effort. It would give her strong motivation to change her stance.

Without another Democrat in the field, you're just weakening a Democratic incumbent in order to hand the seat over to the Republicans.

I'm not saying 'Don't run the ads'. I just wonder whether there is a higher level strategy here, because the current strategy seems to be kind of 'scorched earth' as far as Democrats are concerned.

..if she's against any sort of serious health care reform, what is the difference between her and any repub?

Even better point.

any other Democrat against her. The DNC ALWAYS supports the incumbent because they want to keep their seniority in the committees going.

The DNC, if there was a major progressive Democrat running against her with any name recognition, such as a state legislator, would just NOT endorse but would still pump money into Lincoln's campaign.

The best way to beat her on the merits is to run an INDEPENDENT (think Bernie Sanders) against her who would speak common sense to the poor people of Arkansas.

Of course, I have to admit, I'm not feeling too supportive of ANY Democrats these days....there are but a few who I have any faith in...such as Kucinich, Grayson, Weiner etc.

They are getting painted into a corner. On one hand. If they disobey their money masters ? They will lose the golden goose. If they continue to fly against their constituents best interests in favour of their own ? They will be called out at election time for that too. Its obvious now that Obama should have put Campaign Finance Reform AHEAD of the health care debate. Might have given some of them a chance to vote with their souls instead of their wallets. Face it, the system is inherently corrupt and will remain so. Meet the new boss- same as the old boss.

People in the Congress who do not push for Campaign Finance Reform stand a strong chance of being sucked into the money pit of lobbyist and corruption.

The beltway is full of nothing but CORPORATE WHORES.You will not get a public option solely because of this fact.

P.S. I apologize to whores everywhere as to lumping these people in with you.

in an hour, is the post deleted or the Senate seat declared vacant?
(Not to be confused with vacant or vacuous thought.)

Olbermann didn't REALLY say "she's all for the public option so long as it is not a pubic option" did he? What does Blanche Lincoln have against a pubic option?

as long as she is not.

Reaping and Sowing

Having spent months pressuring employees to lobby against healthcare reform, big insurer WellPoint Inc., which includes Anthem Blue Cross, announced last week it was cutting employee health benefits as well as dismissing some workers. A House investigation earlier this year also found that Wellpoint rewarded employees for finding ways to drop policyholders who developed expensive conditions - raising the morally complex issue of whether those employees are now getting what they deserve, or what.

At this point maybe Blanche is trying to suck up all the insurance and BIG pharma money as she can becasue she knows SHE IS GOING DOWN in the next primary.

OliverDreams's picture

I wish they would do an ad in Indiana about Blue Dog Evan Bayh being against the public option. Do you think his wife earning a million bucks a year as board member for several health insurance companies might have something to do with that? It makes me sick.

I am an Arkansan, and there is much discontent about Blanche. Although she has a (D) behind her name, she votes (R) most of the time. Earlier, she sponsored a bill to let folks carry firearms in National Parks, and now this.

I have written her office and told her that in the next election, if she makes it through the Primary, I will vote for her opponent. If we are going to have a Republican representing us, I would prefer to have one honest enough to say so up front.

If this woman is going to lose her seat or thinks she's going to lose her seat to a republican or a more liberal democrat, she should just go ahead and do the right thing and vote for the health care public option. At least then she could leave while doing something good for the American people.
