MoveOn jumps into the Blue America "Standing Up For The Public Option" fundraiser.
MoveOn has generously joined in on our Standing Up For The Public Option fundraiser and it's helped keep the thermometer rising. When last I looked we were over 300,000 dollars and over 5000 donors. I can't wait to wake up and see where we are next. (I wrote this post at 11:15 PM Thursday)
UPDATE: MoveOn.org Joins The Battle
If you've noticed that our thermometer is going through the roof today, that's because MoveOn is in the process of sending out a request to their millions of members to join the effort to thank the Democrats in Congress who have drawn the line in the sand for a robust public option and real health care reform beyond the siphoning of public money that the insurance companies and their congressional shills want.
I was watching MSNBC and CNN yesterday and all I was hearing was that progressives supporting the public option are left to the left. WTF does that mean? When Bush used reconciliation to pass his massive tax cut for the rich bill, the media didn't say that it was a right to the right position. We get tarred for having a brain.
And now Terry McCauliffe of all people has said that he's for the public option and is offering to do a fundraiser for anyone who endorsers it in Virginia. Wow.
Not Larry Sabato has worked with Terry McAuliffe to do a major fundraiser for any Virginia candidate who makes the pledge (an effort probably worth six figures).
Terry McAuliffe? Wow! That's an effort! In fact, I'm going back on the Blue America page and donating some more.
And a new poll shows 77% percent of Americans still support the public option.
Yet, while the issue continues to be hotly debated in the halls of Congress, a new poll by Survey USA finds that the idea is as popular as ever amongst the American public:
More than three out of every four Americans feel it is important to have a “choice” between a government-run health care insurance option and private coverage, according to a public opinion poll released on Thursday.
A new study by SurveyUSA puts support for a public option at a robust 77 percent, one percentage point higher than where it stood in June.
The SurveyUSA poll finds similar results to several other polls that also show that the public option is very popular, a fact that some members of Congress consider to be a detriment.
Yes, I'm a 77%er...
Jane adds:
The House Dems have 77% of the country behind them. Conrad and Bayh have WellPoint and Blue Cross behind them, and messy financial ties to boot. Will they join with the Republicans to filibuster a Democratic health care bill? Because as Kagro X says, that is very much what they are saying they will do.
I guess we will see.

I would imagine the 20-23% would be much of the teabaggers saying in town hall meetings, "no government takeover of my medicare and social security!"
I don't make enough to donate, but I believe in the cause. Dunk the teabaggers; let's take over America.
Left of the left here:
Full National Health, Nationalize the entire business.
Take the insurance CEOs into rehabilitation and give them bed pans to clean, for minimum wage. That will clear their minds…
statusquObama, change you can only pretend in
The poll results are here, and it can't be right.
They have Republican support of the public option at 71%, and conservative support at 67%!! That's impossible.
We are absolutely killing ourselves with this issue.
they pass a healthcare reform bill They need to start working on a News reporting reform bill.
. . .
everything
Democrats in support of at least a public option need to force the Republicans to filibuster. Fighting for what one believes in is better than the status quo EVEN if you lose. This battle is more than just about health care reform and the corporatists know it.
Nothing we can do, even if we all were millionaires, will be enough. No matter if the only thing he gets to call "health care reform" is a minuscule rule about pre-existing conditions, with insurance companies CEOs getting to write the definition, Obama is bound and determined to bargain with Rethugs who hate his guts and will STILL vote against any bill they end up with.
Those who VOTED him into office, including myself, are as insignificant as reflections on a window. He talked a big game. He totally convinced some of us, half convinced others and others weren't convinced at all but voted for him against Bush and McSenile and his Moose Burger Babe.
But in the end, Obama is just as far into the pockets of the insurance companies CEOs as the Rethugs and Blue traitors. And when all is said and done and all the concessions are made and real health care for those who can't afford it and those who, for now, believe the rethugs will help them stay safe, will be nothing but a memory of what could have been.
The decision's already been MADE. They never allowed single payer to even be discussed. They tried to send the public option along WITH single payer, they brought it back only because some demanded it, but in the end, they had already made up their mind that instead of health care reform they would give the corps wealth care reform. Obama sold us all OUT when he handed the bill to congress and then went behind their backs to deal with the CEOs for peanuts. And after the stimulus fiasco he should have learned his lesson and not, at the very LEAST, used the most important legislation to ever come out of congress SINCE Social Security and Medicare, which Rethugs have been itching to destroy ever since, to "trust" them to deal in good faith on, even with all the lies, the fear mongering, the phony town hallers bussed in from other towns or even other states, ALL spouting the same sentences, the same talking points, the gun toting crazies peppered throughout the crowds to make the point very CLEAR that if people didn't "go with the program" they could be murdered any moment. One woman said, at Barney Franks town hall, that she NEEDED health care. Some 50 Right Wing Wackos stood up and BOOED her. That's SO PATRIOTIC I could PUKE! Pardon my language!
Health care reform is OVER no matter how much "the people" contribute to save it, because the deals were made, the checks written and the whole thing signed, sealed and delivered before the first word was written. Obama wants to "pass a bill", Rethugs don't want him to win, Dems don't CARE, BUT, Obama doesn't want a "public option" in spite of what he SAID, so he insists on "dealing with the DEVIL" to cover his A**!
Those who will die? Collateral Damage! And the thugs who've been bought and paid for by Dick Armey and his disgusting ilk and Glenn the poisoner wannabe, some of them will die too, but hey, according to them, if you're not as fortunate as they, you don't deserve to be alive in the good ole USA anyway!
One fruit cake stood up, again at Barney Frank's town hall, told a big long made up story about his health and how he needed care blah blah blah, and then, when Barney Frank was explaining how the health reform would help him, the scum loudly interrupted to ask, "Why should all these other people have to pay for MY health care?"
The only thing these people LIKE is murder, mayhem, death and destruction. They cry about the deficit, but it could be 200 trillion dollars if it was for WAR but one thin dime for saving life is a deal breaker and they BOO you if you even suggest the WAR costs too much, even the Blue Dog Traitors.
Now tie them together and recognize that the President of the United States is a figure head. Our country has been taken over by special interests and is fueled by the Military Industrial CONGRESSIONAL Complex.
I don't presume to know the effort you have put into making your members of Congress and Obama do the right thing, but a major problem in this country is that many citizens believe all they have to do is vote during the election AND their work is done. Until the final legislation is drafted and the votes are counted, the fight must go on no matter how grim the outlook can appear especially if one buys into media spin. Anything can happen in politics, but giving into pessimism will most certainly predict the worst everytime.
last night...
I had tears running down my face more than once.
The healthcare/drug corporations in this country need to be shut the fuck down.
When you write that being called "Left of the Left" is being "tarred," i wonder if you realize you are using the same standards of judgement that the Right is?
After all, I myself would take it as a compliment.
is on posting comments around saying that they were contacted by MoveOn.org and offered money to go out and protest against the teabaggers. What a giant crock of shit!!!! They are trying to make proponents of a Public Option out to be the Astroturf organization that the teabaggers are! Sheesh.
Of course, I pointed out that I am a member of MoveOn.org and they have not offered me any money to do a damn thing. Why would they contact GOPers to offer them money? Total horse shit!
the republican rep. in lakeville indiana had a town hall which was reported in the south bend tribune it was evidently quite a ruckas (almost any meeting with thois woman is a ruckas she is a dimwit so far right panderer it is pathetic). in the comments section of the article every right wing poster in the area is saying that this is all a moveon.org george soris backed left wing plot to come up with fake polls. the south bend tribune has what seems to be a paid republican operative (not in their employ) posting all kinds of lies about healthcare reform including links to every right wing health care lie site. this person has defended altered video tapes with fake facts. this person has posted almost daily right wing talking points bashing obama since before the election. he has also posted all the fake polling done by the right as fact.
i am getting sick of all of the lying by the right. as usual they drown out and castigate anyone who tries to tell the truth or say anything positive about the obama administration. i got bashed in the comments dection abut a published letter i sent in denouncing the birthers for what they are. these people are sick and twisted. sorry for any typos and my sorry train of thought, this is just really starting to get my goat.
