Take the Blue America Poll on Free Speech
Download | play QT only...Check out McCain saying he beat us....
As you know---there was another ridiculous vote in Congress today on the MoveOn ad. The House was next in line to denounce it. We're talking about a "free speech" issue. Many of our Blue America candidates voted for the right of free speech, but a few didn't. Our own John Hall (NY), Jerry McNerney (CA), Patrick Murphy (PA) and Carol Shea-Porter (NH) voted against the ad.
Here's their overall voting record which is very good for the most part from Progressive Punch.org.
John Hall (NY) is at 93.59 %
Jerry McNerney (CA) is at 87.41%
Patrick Murphy (PA) is at 81.07%
Carol Shea-Porter (NH) is at 95.04%
Jane Hamsher: These representatives don’t seem to realize that their job is to protect free speech guaranteed by the constitution, not legislate where and how it is exercised, because at that point it ceases to be, you know, free.
Please take the survey.
Update: Howie has more...
"More and better Democrats" is a motto we need to be thinking about. Don't forget to take the survey. and don't forget to say thanks to Hilda Solis, Jerry Nadler, Tom Allen, and Steve Cohen

Pole a pol.
Bush finally found a General who would lie when others wouldn’t.
“The President is holding our Soldiers hostage to his ego."
- Major Gen. Paul Eaton. (Former Iraq War Commander)
"The President vetoed our troops and the American people. His stubborn commitment to a failed strategy in Iraq is incomprehensible.”
- Major Gen. John Batiste. 2nd Highest Ranking Military Official in Iraq
“US Can't Win Iraq War Because Most Iraqis Oppose US Troops”
- Lt. Gen. Robert Gard
I guess Jon Hall's another so called "progressive" candidate who forgot who it was that got him elected. I guess I shouldn't be so hard on him. Clearly, he's not the only coward in Congress.
The founding fathers must be rolling in there graves. Congress is a joke. Both sides of the aisle. Let the Brown shirts roll. Praise Jesus. Bomb Iran. Don't question blackwater or the Saudi's. Let it run its bloody course until the majority of Americans are so beat down and oppressed that we may finally rise up and take it back. If it's not too late.
As if the democratic system in the United States couldn't get any worse... I can't believe your representatives even vote on such stupid and meaningless issues. Only in America...
OT- I'm watching Chris Matthews' pre-debate coverage. Not a word about Kucinich, who has won at least 3 out of the last 5 debates that I saw. Just Hillary, Hillary, Hillary, Barack, Hillary, Hillary, John.
Hillary DISGRACED herself in the last couple weeks by announcing a health-care plan that must've been written by the Health Care industry. NOT A WORD from Chris Matthews. Hillary DISGRACED herself by voting for the Kyl Amendment. NOT A WORD from Chris Matthews.
I'm expecting another BIG WIN from Kucinich tonight. That is if Tim Russert allows him to talk. Mike Gravel too.
The future depends on the blogs and the ability of the bloggers to confront the most emotionally disturbing realities of our government.
The MSM is corporately owned and will not report on the things that are in the interest of the American people. They will protect their owners and their corporate sponsors over the American people every time.
I hope we can spread the truth no matter how offensive and disturbing it really is. Pedophilia in Government is one example. And the scenario behind the Jeff Gannon credentials and White House pass is probably the best evidence in this case. Mark Foley wasn't just an average Congressman. He was in charge of protecting Children.
The fact that our leaders are building long term and permanent army bases and outrageous embassies in Iraq is another thing we need to confront. They are lying to us about helping Iraq and then leaving.
I hate thinking about this stuff as much as the next person, but if we are going to defeat these despots and get our country back we have no choice but to overcome our emotional aversion to subjects like these.
As Bob Marley said "The Truth is an Offense, but not a Sin" Let's do it and end this reign of terror.
What I don't get about John Hall(I don't know enough about the others to comment) is that it's so uncharacteristic of him. It seems like he's usually one of the people who votes the right way even when the majority of Dems don't. Any idea what he and the other netroots candidates were thinking?
Patrick K @ 4:
Ehh, the founders were human beings who engaged in a lot of this kind of nonsense as well. And partisan bickering between the Federalists and the Democratic-Republicans was so vicious that the third presidential election almost wrecked the nation.
It does often seem as though we need to scrap everything and start over. I'd settle for a new bill of rights to add to the Constitution.
Dennis @ 8:
Yeah, the same thing every other shitbag politician thinks. I"ve finally made it to Washington. Look how big the Capitol is. By the, what did I come here to do? Oh, now I remember... SUCK.
I'm beginning to believe ALL pols are like this now. So much for faith in the system.
Who gives a flying rat's ass what these spineless hacks do anymore? Nothing has changed since November of 2006.
Don't get me wrong ... I hate all of these dipshits for the vote even making either floor. But I just want to be sure what we're advocating, or condemning. Had the dems had congress when Max Cleland, John McCain, and John Kerry were attacked and lied about, and had they done something similar to this, would we have condemned it?
Is the difference the veracity? If so, do we want congress to start investigating the veracity of all public statements?
Yeah, fuck these guys ... all of them. But I wouldn't have been near as outraged had this been a repudiation of the Swiftboaters. So I'm a little ambivalent about all of this.
This "president" has shit upon all our most dear values. Has backed torture. Repealed Habeas Corpus. Lied us into war. Ignored a drowning town. Defied any law he wants with a "signing statement." Instituted domestic wiretapping.
Impeachment is "off the table," our "representatives" tell us. And now.
Now these put@s want to act brave and proud and righteous because they can rally against a page of newsprint?
But it makes sense. Pulp is all they can stand up to. They are frauds, complicit in the death of a nation. I lose more respect for my own government every single day.
For those of you who don't understand politics Jerry McNerney, and Patrick Murphy got elected in red districts i.e. disticts with a Republican majority who will elected a Republican in 2008 if the current Congressmen don't do exactly what their constituents want.
Carol is so stupid she likely pressed the wrong button on the censure vote. HAHAHAHA.
PurplePatriot @ 12:
Good point. Dems should introduce an identical measure condemning the swiftboaters. Forget that it was 3 years ago. Republicant's would have no choice but to vote for it.
Actually when agreeing with me 95% isn't bad. Shea-Porter caught my eye because she is the rep in the other NH distyrict. Hodes is mine. He also got 95%.
However, and this is a big however, both ran on anti-occupation platforms. Hodes specifically said he would not fund National Guard troops over there at all. Period. Both have voted to continue to fund the occupation. Both voted yes on the Lieberman/Kyl Amendment.
Very dissapointing. Here's hoping for successful primary challenges for these two losers.
I just did an image search on Google to refresh my memory of what Patrick J. Murphy looked like. For gawds sake, he is being pimped by the Chamber of Commerce! The enemy of the workers. And he is a Bluedog. Shitcan him, PA.
Jo @ 18:
The GOP would like to thank you for your efforts to unseat the only anti-Iraq War Congressman who's also served in Iraq.
I thought MoveOn made an editorial mistake with the: Petraeus or Betray-us headline.
Ask anyone on the street about the content of the add. Republicans controlled the message/Media facilitated/Dems capitulated.
However, even though MoveOn may have commited a strategic error, MoveOn should place a copy of that signed,non-binding resolution in a place of prominence for all to see, and use it to remind Americans of what MoveOn is fighting for. Turn a negative to a positive. Put that Signing Photogragh front and center on their website, procure one of those signing pens, put it on EBay an auction it for the families of our troops.
f anyone that voted against moveon. People that try to get "moderate" street cred from the righties doesn't deserve to be in congress
I just re-checked the objective polling. The anti-war movement is winning by a landslide.
The over-whelming majority of the country wants out of Iraq in the next year, and are giving both the President and the Congress history-making negatives over their pro-war stance. The battle for public opinion is already over, and the pro-war politicians have lost. The awful nature of war can't be spun.
The only point the public don't agree with MoveOn about is that they have a favorable personal opinion of Petraeus. That won't last long. 6 months from now, when a few more hundred Americans have been killed, the Congress is getting ready to allocate another 50-80 billion taxpayer dollars, and Iraq is still a flaming violent cesspool, Petraeus ain't gonna be looking so hot.
Chris @ 22:
Just so I know what polling are you refering too?
I have a major problem with Progressive Punch because they gave Sen. Amy Klobuchar a 92% rating and ranked her 13th out of 100. She voted yes on the FISA amendment to allow the administration to spy on Americans and she voted yes on the senate resolution condemning the MoveOn.org ad.
I believe that with these dispicable votes OUR representatives are trying to intimidate OTHER newspapers, magazines and Networks from accepting ads from MoveOn.
Imagine how uneasy the SF Chronicle, San Jose Mercury News, LA Times, etc. etc. are feeling! I hope they are braver than Congress.
To Admins:
I'm not sure who to contact, but if Carol Shea-Porter is a woman, you might want to contact the people running the survey and have them change the "his" to "her" in "Ask her to come on Blue America and explain *his* vote."
