Blue America — Tony Trupiano (MI-11)

Tony is a great guy and now he's on FDL bring interviewed. I used to go on his talk show when I first started to get media inquiries and he knows the issues well. Donate to our Blue America page if you can because he's a real Progressive...

Tony Trupiano joins us in the comments to chat about his candidacy for the MI-11. Please stop by and give him a warm FDL welcome. As always, please stay on topic in this Blue America thread — take any off-topic discussion to the prior thread — and, please, be polite to our guest. We still need to GOTV

We're going to need a lot of help..

Chris Bowers:

This should be obvious to anyone watching polls for this election, but I just wanted to point it out for the benefit of any Democrats who are in a position of decision-making power for this election. There is no way we can win this election unless we turn out Democrats at high on

He's got some good links and the numbers usually don't lie.

Christy has more great ideas :

What Bush Bounce

If President Bush ever did get a bounce in the polls from the fifth anniversary commemoration of Sept. 11, it has completely on

He also discusses the polls that FOX has been touting which tells us who might win the Congressional matchups and has some very different findings:

-- On Sept 15, an AP-Ipsos poll: Democrats 53%, Republicans 39%

-- On Sept. 14, a Pew poll: Democrats 52%, Republicans 40%

-- On Sept. 14, a Wall Street Journal poll: Democrats 48%, Republicans 39%

-- On Sept. 13, an ABC poll: Democrats 50%, Republicans 42%

You can help out our Blue America candidates here. And make sure you register to vote...

John Hall Wins!

He's a smart guy who the knows the issues like the back of his hand. He impressed me big time as soon as I spoke with him a few months back so I'm glad to see that our Blue America candidate won...He'll be doing an online chat that I'll post about later.

After winning the primary by a wide margin, Hall will now take on GOP incumbent Sue Kelly. The district includes parts of Westchester, Putnam and Orange counties. Hall is running on an antiwar and pro-environmental platform, and received support on the campaign trail from Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt and Steve Earle, among others. Kelly is known as a moderate Republican on most issues, and the district has favored the GOP in the past.

Tancredo gets his "Hate" on

Tancredo.jpg Remember when Joe Klein recently said:

Rove has shown a positive genius for organizing campaigns around poisonous trivia. He will question the patriotism of Democrats (and, once again, be aided by those on the noisome left who believe that the U.S. is a malignant, imperialistic force in the world). He will deploy an ugly, stone-throwing distortion of Christian "values," especially against those Democrats who choose not to discriminate against homosexuals. And if things get really desperate, he will play the race card, as Republicans have ever since they sided against the civil rights movement in the 1960s.

Southern Poverty Law Center

On the ground floor, a United States Army brass band commemorated the victims of 9/11. One level up, not far from the museum's permanent Confederate Army exhibit, the state chapter of the League of the South (LOS), a neo-Confederate hate group, hosted a barbecue in honor of Colorado Congressman Tom Tancredo, head of the House Immigration Reform Caucus and likely contestant in the 2008 GOP presidential primary. Proceeds from the $15 per-plate fundraiser went to Americans Have Had Enough!, a South Carolina-based non-profit coalition for which Tancredo serves as honorary chairman.

Premiere Video: Have You had Enough?--Go McNerney!

HaveUhadEnough.jpg The Blue America song by Rickie Lee Jones, Tom Maxwell and Ken Mosher,

Media error

is helping to re-define netroots activism in this campaign cycle. The viral nature of developing, open-sourced communication technology has allowed blogs from around the country, cooperating with each other, to start launching congressional-district campaigns using versions of the song, remixes and animations. Last week SayNoToPombo launched a My Space page with a customized version of "Have You Had Enough" recorded especially to help Jerry McNerney in CA-11.

Anyone who tosses at least $20 into the Blue America PAC bucket today (Monday, September 11) will get a "thank you" CD mailed to them.

Blue America's Roger Sharpe

North Carolina's arch-extremist Virginia Foxx is being challenged for re-election by progressive Roger Sharpe. Sharpe is today's featured guest at Blue America's Firedoglake (2 PM, EST). Foxx originally cut her fans teeth on making anti-gay legislation in North Carolina's state House her political raison d'etre. (see the video) And, along with the most right-wing voting record imagable, she has brought her anti-gay (and anti-immigrant) mania to the U.S. Congress. Join the Blue America gang for a question-and-answer and find out about the dynamics of this interesting race and-- if you feel moved-- give Roger some help at the Blue America ActBlue page.

Chris Carney at Blue America

(guest blogged by Howie)

Progressive Fightin' Dem Chris Carney (PA-10) had some great news today-- a poll showing him strongly ahead of incumbent rubber stamper Don Sherwood in their northeast Pennsylvania district. He'll be celebrating the good news at 5:30 PM (EST) over at Firedoglake with a live blog session. He's our newest addition over at Blue America. Here's a Youtube about him called Karl Rove's worst nightmare.

And if you think Carney's opponent is just a garden-variety right-winger who chokes young girls and then pays them off, check out my piece about his crass 9/11 fundraising event. Carney know just how to handle these guys though...Go chat with Chris if you have a moment.

How About Asking a Veteran What Supporting the Troops Really Means?

Via DKos

charlie-brown Lt. Colonel Charlie Brown (USAF Ret.) responds to Congressman John Doolittle's recent column about "supporting the troops":

Like his "stay the course" colleagues, Doolittle's hopeless strategy here is to try and distract voters from his hypocritical record on the subject by smearing his opponents. Unfortunately, no amount of taxpayer funded campaign mailers will change the fact that he voted to send our troops to war in Iraq without a plan, proper equipment, or sound intelligence. It won't change the growing tensions in Iran, North Korea, Afghanistan, Lebanon, and elsewhere that have occurred under John Doolittle's watch. And it certainly won't change the fact that he had the second worst record in the entire House of Representatives on Veterans issues in the 109th Congress (per Disabled American Veterans).

I wasn't the only one who noticed. My son, an Iraqi War Veteran and Air Force Captain who co-piloted Doolittle from Baghdad to Tal-Afar back in February took exception to Doolittle's recent column while home a few weeks ago on leave. His response to Doolittle is below. Read on...
